The Boxcar Children By Gertrude Chandler Warner

Summer is a time to get caught up in a good tale. This was one of my childhood favorites, one both my children and my students loved.

Gertrude Chandler Warner’s The Boxcar Children books were first published in the 1940s, and they are still enjoyed by children today.

If you read these books as a child, now would be a great time to share the fun with your children by reading these books aloud.

The first book in the series, simply called The Boxcar Children, introduces four orphaned siblings, Henry, Jessie, Violet and Benny who struggle to stay together and make a home in a boxcar. Through struggles and hardship, they earn the trust and help of a local billionaire. What happens next?

Dive in for hours of reading and adventure by reading this aloud to your child. And, if you like the first one, there are about 150 books in the series!
