FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 1, 2014

Chevron and Kid Scoop News partner to expand STEM education and build STEM literacy for 30,000 elementary school students throughout Alameda & Contra Costa County

(Oakland, CA, December 1, 2014)—Kid Scoop News, a hands-on educational publication for elementary school children is partnering with Chevron to introduce 30,000 children in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties to careers that use science, technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to get kids and parents to learn about family-friendly science activities throughout the Bay Area.

A generous grant from Chevron will provide funding for 10 STEM interactive pages in five upcoming issues of Kid Scoop News. Content will feature hands-on activities including science experiments that kids and parents can do at home and will build general STEM literacy. One upcoming issue will even profile a Chevron environmental scientist who will share her passion with young readers. Another page will profile kid-friendly STEM institutions throughout the Bay Area such as the Chabot Space & Science Center. The paper will also help kids and parents learn about the Bay Area Science festival held each fall at multiple Bay Area locations.

In addition to supporting page content, the grant will also provide 45 classrooms in the Bay Area with free copies of Kid Scoop News for an entire school year.

Kid Scoop News is a dynamic educational publication with a total circulation of 45,000 Bay Area elementary school kids and their parents. The paper currently has two editions, a North Bay edition and an East Bay edition. Each paper is designed to install a love of reading in children and covers topics such as nutritional education, civic engagement and STEM education. All content follows Common Core Standards.
