The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind By William Kamkwamba, Bryan Mealer

This is the true and inspiring story of William Kamkwamba. His village in Malawi was struck with a terrible drought. People went hungry and there was no produce to sell at the market. William went to his local library to look for a solution and he found it in the unlikely idea of actually making a windmill. He didn’t have all the special parts required but instead he worked with scrap metal, old bicycle parts and anything he could find that would help. His invented windmill worked to bring electricity which in turn powered the pump bringing water that fed the land and allowed crops to grow.

This book should inspire young inventors and builders to take the chance and perhaps use their curiosity, science and resourcefulness (and a library) to create something new.
