The Annual BCS National Championship was played for the final time on Monday, January 6, 2014, at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA. The number 1 ranked Florida State Seminoles played number 2 ranked Auburn Tigers. The Seminoles were victorious with a final score of 34-31. Even though the game was only won in the final seconds, each team played a tremendous game.

Florida State’s defense played a lousy first half, but cleaned it up in the second half. FSU’s defense let the tiger’s offense score 24 points in the first half, but only letting them score 7 in the second half. Coach Jimbo Fisher said what changed the team’s momentum, was the fake punt on fourth down which helped setup a Florida State touchdown to end the half. Auburn dominated the first three quarters and Florida State took control of the ballgame the final quarter to win the game!

This was the last BCS National Championship to be played. The NCAA is moving to a four team playoff system and abandoning the single game championship. Coach Fisher indicated that he was not excited about the new playoff system because “the boys need to go to school. They need to get an education and the playoffs take a couple of weeks to complete and the games are around the time of their finals. They also cannot take the wear and tear of multiple playoff games like NFL players can.” January 2000, was the first BCS National Championship and Florida State won. This year the Seminoles walked away with another win and it was the final BCS Championship ever to be played. Florida State will be on record as the first and last winners.
